Early Engagemnt
Over the course of a 13-year relationship with the hospital, Antos Environmental embarked on a mission of driving sustainable healthcare in New York City. The organization significantly grew over the course of the partnership, during our initial engagement grew in size and services, adding an additional 4000 employees, but Antos maintained costs and volumes for a 5 year period, even decreases costs in some areas. Antos generated a sustainability committee that would go on to partner with Martha Stewart for a weekly farmer’s market and address environmental issues on a monthly basis from energy conservation to water consumption and supply chain efficiency.
Big Savings Long and Short-Term
The hospital has realized over $600,000 a year savings in waste disposal costs. The percent of red bag waste volume, as it relates to the total waste stream, is one of the lowest reported in the nation. Reports show red bag waste volume to be less than 5% of its total waste stream. Antos has maintained this volume and related costs for over 5 years, while the organization has grown in size and services. This is unprecedented in New York City.
Culture Change
The organization now thinks about what it buys, how they use it and eventually what will happen at the end of its utilization.

Sustainability
There is so much to building and maintaining sustainability in a large teaching facility. Constant education and monitoring are required to keep the initiative active. We brought in Antos Environmental to drive down the costs and keep the initiative energized. The organization has had a seven year engagement with Antos and the project continues to be a success. Antos provides direction and leadership necessary to maintain environmental sustainability while continuing to
reduce costs.
Green Team
“Our Hospital has an executive level Green Team with several
executive level administrators that attend the meetings and drive the
initiatives. The sustainability portion of our website is a
masterpiece co-created by our Marketing and Public Relations Departments, with significant input provided by Antos Environmental.”
